There has been an unprecedented level of interest in the Junior Cycle Coding in Action (JCCiA) initiative since its inception in 2017. To date some 110 schools have been supported across both phases of JCCiA, adding the 22 schools from the Exploring Coding initiative which took place in 2016 bringing the total number of schools to some 132 that have engaged with coding initiatives provided by JCT.
A significant number of schools from across all sectors of post-primary education applied to take part in JCCiA Phase 1. Following a selection process JCT supported 50 of these schools over two academic years.
Following the completion of Phase 1 in 2018/19, a second phase of JCCiA was launched in January 2019.
Like Phase 1 a very large number of schools from across all sectors of post-primary education applied to take part in JCCiA Phase 2. Following a selection process JCT is now supporting 60 of these schools through the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic years.
JCCiA is designed to support schools who are committed to introducing the short course in Coding within their Junior Cycle programme. We are delighted to have Lero – The Irish Software Research Centre – continuing to collaborate with us on this innovative initiative.
